My Soulmate Alexa

Over the last few years, smart technology and voice activation has been on all of our minds at some time or another. I got an Amazon Echo a few years ago now and, at first, I was not impressed.  Alexa and I did not get on as well as I thought we would. So I put Alexa in the gym and she has lived there for a year happily playing me the music I want as I pretended to do some fitness… more like clean the gym.

I got my first 2 Echo Dots last year and I did not know where to put them, Alexa and I were getting on in the gym so, I decided to put one in the living room and one in my office. From there, things started to change I paired Alexa with my hue lights and realized we could dim the lights in the living room. My kids started to talk to Alexa asking her to do things like turn the lights blue my youngest at only 4 years old likes to show everybody that Alexa can change the lights.

It was a different story in the office Alexa was not a good PA… She would not fill in my diary effectively and had a bad habit of talking too much when I asked her to take notes. We were getting on so well in every other area of my life just not at work. Then I realized it! I could not work with my wife! So how could I work with Alexa…

So, I decided that it’s time to move Alexa into the bedroom. At first, I was nervous and wondered what my wife would think. So, I moved her in without telling my wife. That night when we went to bed, we always have a race as the light switch is on the far side of the room. I let my wife win she was so happy with herself. Then when I got in to bed without turning the lights off she looked at me with that look only your wife could of disappointment and anger all in one. You all know that look the one that lets you know you’re not getting what you want ever again… But then with a cheeky smile on my face, I said: “Alexa turn the bedroom lights off”.

Moving forward I plan on getting some more bits in the house to use with my Echo’s which will give Alexa a little more to help me with. The next step is going to have to be a kettle as there is nothing worse than getting up to make a cup of tea and standing there for 60 seconds waiting for the kettle to boil. Not only that but I know it will make my wife happier, she loves a good cup of tea, that can only be a good thing for me right???? Not only that but maybe one day she will be back in my office and even ringing people up for me.

So what is the point of all this… Well, I suppose there is not one yet I think I’m still at the start of my relationship with Alexa but I feel that it’s going to be a long one of love-hate and passion… “Alexa play sexy music”…
